New Years’ Resolutions

It’s that time again. Everyone is making New Years’ Resolutions. Have you started your list? Scratch that. I don’t know about you, but I have enough lists in my life. I want to steer away from one when it comes to my hopes for the New Year.

I’ve seen some great approaches.
There’s the one word approach. The idea being to take one word and focus on that throughout the new year. My One Word is a great website to get ideas about this. Beth Vogt has written a great post about this as well on her site.
I recently purchased a new magazine based on some new ideas I want to implement in my life. The PaleoMagazine. Yep, I’m going to try and eat Paleo – at least as much as I can in this busy life of mine. But I’m getting off track. In the letter from the editor, Cain Credicott had some suggestions as you head into a new year. Focus on one thing. Don’t compare what you’re doing to anyone else. Take small steps instead of expecting it to happen overnight. Great advice!
I have found in the past that God often directs my life along a theme. Not necessarily matching up with the start and finish of a year. And I don’t always see it till the season is done. I expect He has some seasons ahead for me this year. But as for my choice of direction, this year I’m going to focus on faith. Believing God. Taking him at his word.

How do you approach your hopes and dreams for the new year?
Do you make a list? Do you choose a word? Or do you freestyle it?

  1. I've always been a goal person, but for 2014, I'm gonna try the One Word thing. God is impressing two different ones on my heart (neither of which is making me particularly happy LOL) – just hoping He'll let me know which to pick (or if I"m supposed to pick both :D).

Need to check out these two posts on One Word. Thanks!

  2. No matter which approach we choose, I think we all have in our heart to be improve some area of our life over the coming year. Whether it's giant steps or baby ones, what matters the most is what directions we are headed in. Toward God. May God bless you as you seek to hear His voice and direction, Joanna!

  3. I don't make resolutions either. I try to improve my life every week, all year. I've heard very good things about the Paleo diet – I hope you find success there. Eating right and well is just a life-long pursuit, isn't it?!?!? Argh! Happy New Year!

  4. I don't make NY Resolutions. I'm one of those people that will change things the moment I decide they need to be changed, and definitely don't wait for any 'monday' to come around.

That being said, I usually commit to something and stay with it, but not always!

  5. Resolutions can lock us into disappointment with ourselves when we mess up – and we will mess up. I like the other approaches that allow room for those days. Katie – I think we would all be better if we didn't wait for a better day to roll around to make adjustments. Just do it:)
