Do I Have Love?

Do I Have Love?

If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a

clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I

have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess

to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love,

I gain nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:1-3 NIV

I’m asking myself and challenge you to ask yourself the same question: what am I getting right? What am I spot on about? Am I doing it in [genuine] love?

To make it super personal, try rewording the above scripture to fit your situation. For example, in the home:

If I use all the teachable moments in my home to instruct my kids about right and wrong, but I don’t show them love, I am just making a bunch of noise….

If all the clothes are washed and put away, but I don’t have love, my work counts for nothing…

If food is on the table every meal, but I don’t have love, I am not any further ahead than if I didn’t cook for my family…

Is our love showing? Maybe its showing at home, but not at work, school or church. Click to Tweet

What does love look like? Verses 4-8b give us a clear picture: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.  Love never fails….(vs 4-8a)

If the walls need repairing, we better get to work before the enemy takes advantage of the breach!

Stand strong in truth. Grow in love. Thrive in life.

7 things to let go of in order to show love:

1-Let go of the need to prove you’re right.

2-Let go of the need to have the last word.

3-Let go of the desire to be the best at everything.

4-Let go of trying to make everything go your way.

5-Let go of offense and forgive.

6-Let go of demands you place on people’s brokenness to not be broken.

7- Let go of pride.

What would you add to the list?
