Build Your Marriage: Keep Emotions Bridled

Like a city whose walls are broken down is a man who lacks self-control.
Proverbs 25:28 NIV
I’m just going to say it. Manage your PMS. Don’t let your PMS manage you.

Passion is good. There is a place for it. But left unbridled, passion can destroy more quickly than it builds.  Raging hormones do not give us the freedom to say and do anything that comes to our mind.
When hormones do the roller coaster move with our emotions it can be VERY difficult to control our words and actions.  In some cases there is need for medical intervention.  But PMS does not give us permission to stop using self-control.  It is better to have scars on our tongue from biting it than leaving scars on our family from biting remarks.
Be wise and make a plan of action for these times.  Here are a few ideas.
Ø  Eat healthy
Ø  Move: even if it’s just a walk around the block.
Ø  Rest: not the time to burn the candle at both ends.
Ø  Lighten the load of responsibility
Ø  Ask for help
Ø  Apologize. Rare is the woman who has not been there and done that! We will all mess up at times. Make it right and move on.
A man of knowledge uses words with restraint, and a man of understanding is even-tempered.Proverbs 17:27 NIV
“Better to live in the desert than with a quarrelsome and ill-tempered woman.”
Proverbs 21:19 NIV
What ideas have you implemented that help you keep a bridle on your emotions when PMS comes knocking at the door?
