Letting Go

It’s Veteran’s day. A time to honor all those serving now or at any time in America’s history.

Yesterday at church, they asked all the veterans to stand up. We honored them with our applause. Tears came to my eyes as I acknowledged that soon my son will be counted among those protecting this country. My mother’s heart could not be more proud.
He is the first to fly the nest. On one hand it is something to see him stretch his wings as he prepares for take-off. On the other, I’m not very practiced at letting go. Not my kids for something like this. In the day to day stuff, I’ve seen God come through. And I know and believe with all my heart that He will come through as my son learns to be a soldier then heads off to wherever he is stationed and when one day he is deployed.
But my son will no longer be just my son. He will be a soldier. That’s a lot of letting go.
I am thankful to be serving a mighty God I can entrust my kids to.
Do you know someone who is letting go of their son or daughter to serve and protect our country? Do you know a future soldier or one already serving?

Pray for them. Give them a hug and tell them thank you. Especially with the Thanksgiving and Christmas coming up. It’s a hard time to be letting go.
