My Trip to San Diego

We arrived one day early to San Diego for my son’s graduation from boot camp with the Marines. My husband, daughter and I had a blast on our one day mini-vacation. We laughed a lot and it was good.

We started with breakfast at Denny’s. They had wonderful skillet breakfasts to choose from and we had a great waitress- from Peru!

After picking up some snacks our next stop was the beach. We hung out there and actually got to see some surfers test out the waves as the tide came in. Never did that before. Cool!

After the beach we headed down to the Naval Base on Point Loma. There we drove through the military cemetery. I’ve seen the pictures before, but never in person. As my daughter said, “there are so many.” Thank you to all have served.

Next we headed down to the Point Loma lighthouse. I have never been in one, though I have admired plenty from a distance. Up the spiral staircase all the way to the top. We couldn’t actually go up to the lamp, but I was close enough for a great picture.

Before we moved on from the lighthouse we stopped at the visitor center. I was impressed by the group of bikers gathered out front ready for a ride in the hills. (Behind my daughter) Did I tell you that some of the hills made me wonder if we were actually in San Fransisco? Older than I am in years is my guess, their activity level indicated a much healthier body. Oh, to be able to do those kinds of things when you’re in your golden years.

By now we were good and hungry and we headed to the Cheese Cake factory. The food was good, but what I found cool was what I saw outside on the wall of the mall across the street.

I had heard of gardens on walls, but had never seen one up close and personal.

After eating, we headed to Old Town San Diego and walked around all the shops. One of the most unique things I saw were these Story Teller Gourds. The pictures are so tiny, I don’t know how they etched them. With a whole lot of patience, that’s for sure.

My absolute favorite new on my trip to San Diego was…..

My son, just graduated from boot camp.
The new Marine!
