U is for U-Turn

Handy things, those U-turns. When you realize you’re going the wrong way, just loop around and go back. Start over.
Everyone needs a U-turn from time to time. And not just on the road.
When I mess up with my kids, I need to do a U-turn and apologize. Get a do-over. When I hurt someone’s feelings, U-turn with an apology.
Sometimes even with a U-turn of the heart –apology accepted—the consequences are still in place. A criminal that is remorseful might find forgiveness from his victim yet still go to jail. A child may be sorry for disobeying, but even after a heartfelt apology and lots of hugs and reassurances, there will be grounding or time out.
God allows U-turns. When we turn from our sin and ask His forgiveness, do a U-turn,  and ask Him to be Lord of our life, He forgives us and we become His children.
But even after we become His children, we mess up and make wrong choices. We sin because we are human. And He is ready to forgive when we make that U-turn. But He is our heavenly father, and even though He continues to love us, He does not always remove the consequences.
When consequences for our wrong choices continue, don’t let it distract you from the fact that God still loves you.
Sometimes He allows the consequences to draw us closer to Him because He knows what will get our attention. A parent will allow their child to experiment with walking even when it might mean they fall from time to time, because that is how they learn to keep their balance.
Whether he removes the consequences or not, God will be with you through it all. He never leaves His children.
