Overcomers

Welcome to my new Wednesday posts. Overcomers. Living a life transformed by God. The past meets the present. Moving past yesterday, filled with all its hurts and pains. Allowing the Holy Spirit to change our hearts. What does the Bible have to say on this topic? What role does forgiveness and trust play? I look forward to you joining in the discussion.

When we are young, things happen to us and around us. Some good. Some bad. We respond from out of our knowledge base. Sometimes that is a truthful base. Sometimes that is a base of lies. Either way, we take it into ourselves as though it is truth. And we carry it with us throughout our life unless we take steps to change what we believe.
When we have responded to truth and believe it to be truth, it is good. When we have responded to lies and we believe them to be truth, it affects everything we do in a detrimental way.
It’s not always evident right away. But sooner or later, the lies will affect how we live. Destructively.
As children, if we believe we can’t trust grownups, we will treat all grownups as untrustworthy. If we believe that if we allow people to really know us, they won’t like us, then we probably won’t be allowing people to see who we really are.
As we mature, we can replace those lies with truth and change the effects on our life.  We can be overcomers.
When you find yourself weighed down. Unable to make progress. It is highly likely you are established in a lie.
Be careful who you listen to and do not replace one lie with another.
As Christians, we are given the Holy Spirit to lead and guide and counsel us. We are given scripture filled with truth to mine. And we have been given truth Himself – Jesus Christ.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.  John 8:32 (NIV)
