Planned Spontaneity

It was a Friday and I had spent more hours at my desk than I realized. Tired and done for the week, I asked my kids if they wanted to waste some time with me.

My son was quick to point out that THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE calls it “sharpening the saw”. Or purposefully wasting your time.
Just what I needed.
Several garage sales later I netted a new writing friend, material for craft projects, treasures for my kids, smiles, and a much more relaxed mom and writer.
Creativity can get lost in the haze of productivity. A heads down approach may be necessary when there is a deadline, but a constant grind will only wear a person down. Words get lost, characters get lazy and plots tend to drift. Renewal is necessary.
What do you do to “waste” time and rebuild your energy and zest?
